Welcome to the loyalty update for Australia and New Zealand. This is both May and June updates combined. We share the highlights below, subscribe to receive the detailed monthly market update. 

 

Australia

  • Myer is relaunching Myer One with new tiers and will close the newly launched Just Shop loyalty program with the Just Shop brands becoming part of Myer One.

  • Competitor David Jones will launch a new program in October letting members earn Qantas or David Jones points targeting an ultimate base of 5 million members (there’s already 140,000 users of their app that will house loyalty).

  • Woolworths has reduced Everyday Extra perks while Coles is countering with extended free trials for its competing offers. Commonwealth Bank relaunched its Yello program with easier to earn tier access and AMP has partnered with Qantas for points-earning on deposits.

  • Capillary acquired Kognitiv (they went bankrupt) while Adore Beauty’s launches a tiered program, IGA adds cashback, and Virgin introduces a new Velocity elite tier.

     

 

 

New Zealand 

  • Kiwibank will exit its decade-long Airpoints credit card partnership in October while Air New Zealand is launching a new ‘Elite Plus’ Airpoints tier with confirmed perks like complimentary Business Premier Luxe upgrades and a dedicated international lounge.

  • Inland Revenue has ruled that B2B loyalty rewards such as gift cards and merchandise are taxable income.
