Data Analyst

Our highly experienced team has worked on 100+ projects helping large retailers, banks, insurers, and global airlines understand, manage and grow customer value. We are based in Sydney and Melbourne, with global clients in New Zealand, Asia and North America, and we are recognised for our expertise in data analytics.

Your Responsibilities

The key responsibilities for this role primarily cover 4 areas:

  1. Data analysis and insights generation
    • Conducting complex analysis on large datasets using cloud-based databases, advanced coding languages, and applying statistical techniques where appropriate
    • Interpreting and presenting business insights from the analysis, either in slides or visualisation platforms
    • Suggesting new methods, tools and techniques – both to improve efficiency and develop new data products

  2. Consulting engagements
    • Taking on responsibility for producing high quality project deliverables
    • Understanding the client situation, and actively participating in client-facing activities
    • Providing project support e.g. project coordination, project and meetings management

  3. Continual development of yourself and Ellipsis
    • Generate ideas and contribute to Ellipsis’ Data Product strategy
    • Be eager to learn new concepts, methodologies and approaches to further develop skillset
    • Keep up to date on market trends and developments
    • Support continual development of Ellipsis' proposition and build on Ellipsis IP
    • Help to develop proposals, promote new services, and help to nurture relationships with prospects

 

Your Skills and Experience

  1. Technical skills
    • Advanced proficiency in data analytics and insight generation, including:
      • SQL databases, to conduct analysis of customer and transactional data
      • Scripting and modelling tools such as Python and R (more advanced experience with SPSS, SAS or similar an advantage)
      • Data visualisation and presentation using platforms such as Tableau and Power BI (more advanced experience with Shiny, or other visualisation platforms an advantage)
    • Knowledge of statistics and probability and their applications (experience with regression models, or similar an advantage)
    • Ability to interpret and present business insights from the analysis, in a client-friendly format

  2. General experience
    • Minimum 2-3 years' experience in business and/or marketing insights
    • Strong academic qualifications
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Comfortable managing demands and expectations of both internal and client stakeholders
    • Experience in client-facing activity preferred, and/or desire to take on more of this type of role

  3. Character attributes
    • Good commercial mindset, essential to combine numeracy with strong business acumen
    • Self-motivated, self-driven, highly responsible mindset
    • Good planning and prioritisation skills
    • Positive and creative approach to problem solving
    • Ability to work under pressure, with consistent attention to detail
    • Team player with strong internal and external relationship building skills

  4. Domain-specific (beneficial but not essential for candidate)
    • Understanding of loyalty, marketing and analytics landscape
    • Knowledge of principles of direct marketing and loyalty program management
